Beta Upsilon Chi was formed in the Spring of 1985 by a group of Christian men at the University of Texas who desired an alternative to the present fraternity lifestyle. A group of 30 men met and planned the "BYX Island Party" to formally announce the fraternities founding. It was the vision of the charter members to have a fraternity of committed Christian men, based on the common bond of Jesus Christ.
In the Fall of 1988, six students of TCU got together to pray and decided they needed a similar group to the one at the University of Texas. They elected officers, and petitioned signatures to find if there was an interest at TCU for such a group. There was, so they began having weekly meetings beginning in the Spring of 1989. Their first official event was an Island Party that Spring. After the party, the founders of the UT group and the officers of the UT and TCU groups met in Dallas where the Beta Chapter was officially elected in. BYX was finally recognized by TCU in the Fall of 1989. There were 46 charter members.
The Beta Upsilon Chi Crest
 |
The Beta Upsilon Chi Crest contains many symbolic elements. The crown represents the sovereignty of God, the Pax Romana insignia represents the peace of Christ, the gold chord represents Ecclesiastes 4:12 "A cord of three strands is not easily broken." The crest is white, representing purity, and purple, representing royalty. The dove symbolizes the Holy Spirit, the cross symbolizes Jesus Christ and salvation through Him. The chalice and bread symbolize communion through Christ with the Father. |
